Women's Health in Motion Today - September 10, 2007

Hello to all Ladies in Motion:

I am so happy to announce that we have scheduled our Breast Cancer Awareness Expo & Forum to be held at High Pointe Church of Christ on Saturday, November 3 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. We extend an invitation to all area organizations to inform us on what they have done to raise funds this year and what they plan to do it in the future here in our area. In doing so, they will give all of us who want to try to make a difference in the lives of all concerned, a place to know more about what is needed and how to get involved to help.

I am seeking a breast cancer survivor to be a spokesperson for WHIM and go with me to area events to invite everyone that has a desire to be a part of our Breast Cancer Awareness Expo and Forum. My goal is to make this an annual event and make it a place we can all come to for information about what goes on in our area to aid/assist those who want or need assistance with regard to breast cancer.

My intent is not to take the place of huge and successful events, but to provide a forum for us to discuss, share and decide which events our area folks want to participate in. I’d also like to mix in presentations done by families, survivors or individuals who would like to share their story. Of course the press is invited to come and do human interest stories of each and every one of the speakers, persons or organizations.

I want to encourage each of you to join me at the McKinney Chamber functions such as LINKS at the Salt Grass every Wednesday at 7:30 am, Women’s Alliance of McKinney Events, The Young Professionals Organization, Stonebridge Ladies Ranch Association, BNI and TNT networking groups to help get the word out.

I will be the presenter this week at North Collin BNI at Eldorado Country Club on Wednesday, September 12. The meeting takes place from 11:30 am to 1 pm.

Please join us to find out more about how we can work together to bring awareness by inviting all area fund raising organizations to bring us up to date on their fund raising activities.

Tickets to our Breast Cancer Awareness Expo will be $3 in advance and $5 at the door.

I’ll be updating the web site, http://www.womenshealthinmotion.org/, our Blog and shopping cart.

Women's Health in Motion Today - August 8, 2007

Hello to all Women in Motion!

I have great news to report!

WHIM has the support of the most elite group of Health and Wellness Professionals in our community and our local media.

Our Pajama Party on Friday evening, July 20 at the Eldorado Country Club was well attended. Our topics of discussion were financial wellness, to/or not to use hormone replacement therapy, in menapause, and how to prevent arthritis and osteoporosis.

The Eldorado Country Club is a wonderful, centrally located venue in the heart of McKinney. Thanks to the title sponsors at our July 20 Pajama Party Event: Sheila Johnson of Johnson Insurance, entrepreneur/founder of, the Women's Investment Network. Dr. Anita Chin from N C Women's Health Partners, Joe Gallucci of Drugcrafters, Dr. Jason Ulsrud of Health Choice Chiropractors and Kay Weedin of Arbonne International, we had information and thought provoking information. It was a fun and wacky night, with presentations about serious subjects.

Over 50 ladies, many in pajamas participated and won prizes for their wacky, creative, ususual, and pretty pajamas. Prizes were awarded that were donated by That Elegant Touch Day Spa, Kate Moore of Bliss Heaven on Earth Massage Therapy, Rene's Lagniappe Hair Design, and many more health and wellness professionals. Our wacky moments were photographed by Ted Fleeger, of Ted Fleeger Photography.

Our next event is the free Family Health Fair in Historic Downtown McKinney and coincides with the Annual Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank Off, Saturday, August 25 from 10 am to 4 pm . The Ice Cream Crank Off is like a chili cookoff, but with ice cream. Ty Lake with the City of McKinney, Main Street Program Director reports that there over 4,500 people in attendance at the 11th Ice Cream Crank Off, and this year at the 12th Annual, we are working to have even higher attendance!

Women's Health in Motion Today - June 3

Hello to All Women in Motion!

We held our first event on Saturday, May 19th at Cottonwood Creek Church. The event was focusing on Melanoma Prevention, since May is Melanoma Month. We had great support from all the medical and beauty community in McKinney and Frisco. Our title sponsors were Medical Center of McKinney, McKinney Regional Cancer Center, Rene's Lagniappe Hair Design and Dr. Kathryn Wood with Dermalase. Also, many of our area not for profit organizations participated as well. We dedicated the day to Mya Spencer the daughter of my dear friends Cocoa and Mike Spencer of Sarasota, Florida. Mya was 23 years old and passed away 3 years after ago after a 4 year battle with Melanoma. Cocoa Spencer and Joanne Seaman flew in from Florida to support us in our effort to bring Melanoma in to awareness. It was a fun day for a very serious cause.

I owe a debt of gratitude to Theresa Summers for all her help with the admin work she did on the event. I couldn't have done it without her.

Also, Jean Schlipman and Celine Matthiessen of the Schlippman Foundation were valuable assets and a great help.

Our next event is schedule for July 20 on Hormone Replacement Therapy, Arthritis and Osteoporosis. It is to be a "Pajama Party" as part of my 55th birthday celebration. I am dedicating the event for July 20 to my mother, Evelyn Oliver, age 84 who is suffering from debilitating Arthritis.

I believe we will be able to have the event in the evening from 4 pm to 11 pm at the El Dorado Country Club in McKinney. I also want to have a wine and cheese party at the kick-off of the event.

The next event will be August 25 at the McKinney Performing Arts Center, the former "Old Court House" in downtown McKinney. The Ice Cream Crank-off will be taking place and we feel that we can "piggy back" on to this very successful, and heavily attended event with a Family Health Fair.

Our web site has been launched. It is in it's infancy and still needs many additions and upgrades that we are working on.

I have interviewed Sales Staff and have selected two very outstanding ladies to assist me in selling memberships and booth space for upcoming events. More about them in a later post.

There will be 4 components to our organization: 1) Our web site, 2) Membership - both individaul and business, 3) Expo and Seminar Events, 4) our own Women's Health in Motion Magazine. The sales staff will assist in selling all four components.

We have big plans and dreams in Women's Health in Motion. The plan is to take the organization state wide, and nationwide.

If you are not already a member, please do join and help us further the cause of optimum health. Individual membership is $29 and business membership is $99 for 1 year.

It is a well known that the wife and the mother of the family is the monitor and promoter of health for the whole family. When the wife and mother is more educated about health, the entire family is more healthy.

I look forward to meeting more health professionals and indivudals whose focus is promoting healthy living.

Women's Health in Motion Today - April 19, 2007

Hello to all Women in Motion!

First, I need to amend the name of one of our title sponsors, Medical Center of McKinney.

Please see the April 17 issue of the McKinney Courier Gazette, page two for a press release that was so graciously entered in to the newspaper to help bring awareness to our event.

I have made contact with Cooper Aerobics Center of Craig Ranch and there is a possiblity they may be a part of the event. That is great news as Cooper is one of the formost respected names in health and fitness, not only for women but also for all people.

Please spread the word about this upcoming event, Saturday, May 19 from 8 am to 3:30 pm at Cottonwood Creek Church.

Women's Health in Motion Today - April 17, 2007

Hello to All Women in Motion!

So much has happened since my last post! We now have 4 Title Sponsors for our first event, May 19, 2007. They are Renee Teague with Langiappe Hair Design, Dr. Kathy Wood with Dermalase, McKinney Regional Cancer Center, and McKinney Medical Center.

Booth space is selling rapidly. Our biggest need is classroom presenters. Spread the word that I need a plastic surgeon, a dermatologist, and a pediatrician speaking on childhood skincare.

The community is behind this event and I so appreciate all the support.

I have formed an alliance with Jean Schlipmann, wife of James Schlipmann, and the James Schlipmann Melanoma Research and Prevention Foundation. Their volunteers are doing a mailing to 1000 women in the community today.

Tomorrow, I am getting 30,000 copies of pink two sided flyers inserted in to the McKinney, Frisco and Allen newspapers. ALRI is doing the printing and the Star Community Newspapers are doing the inserts.

I am offering free booth space to any Not for Profit organization.

We now have 3 downtown McKinney clothing companies conducting our fashion shows: Arabella's, Cynthia Elliott, and Bling. The Pantry is catering our event with yummy chicken salad, green salads, pasta salads and an assortment of their wonderful pies.

We are also doing a Dollar Savers mailing with 10,000 extra copies to distribute through our vendor sponsors.

I am so excited about this event! It is going to be wonderful!

Please spread the word that any business, small or large, for profit or not will be welcome as long as it is of interest to women.

Please call my cell 214-592-5196 or our Exp registration line at 214-923-5885 for more information, to purchase admission or to be a presenter.

Sincerely,

In Motion,

Women's Health in Motion Today January 23, 2007

Hello to all Women in Motion!

Progress is being made in the formation of Women's Health in Motion for McKinney!

Our mission statement is to "Empower Women to Achieve Optimum Health through Education", and our web site and organization is "Designed by Women for Women".

Today, all the women attending the Chamber Breakfast at Van Alstyne's Grayson County Community College filled out the Survey that will be used to design the web site of WHIM-McKinney.org. Last week, the survey was filled out by participants at the Women's Alliance of McKinney. A drawing for a 1 hour massage was donated by Kelly Ezell of Healing Touch Massage to reward those at WAM who filled out and turned in the survey.

We will use the results of the survey to build our website, "Designed by Women, for Women".

Parnterships are being formed each day. Today a partnership with Rona Dahlgren of More Payment Choices has been formed! We will be able to use Rona's company More Payment Choices to allow our members to make their online purchases of their membership, seminar registrations and logo items.

Yesterday, a meeting was held with Cathryn R. Paton, Attorney of the Paton Law Firm to discuss the opportunity of Not for Profit Status of 5013 C and other entities we should consider for setting up our organization.

Not for Profit has more appeal, as we aspire to support organizations with monetary support of those organizations who aid women to achieve optimum health!

In Motion,
Debra K. Pope,
